Skeeby to Richmond –  9 October 2021

There are considered to be 57 places in the world called Richmond but the Richmond we are going to is in the Yorkshire Dales and has been there since around 1071 so you could say that for us there is only one.

The last time we were in Richmond was just over two and a half years ago and in total, we have been there six times. Oddly, apart from one visit in March, they have all been either late in the year or through the winter and this time around seems no exception. Maybe one day we can go in the summer just to see what it is like.

We have three routes planned, two of the routes start from Skeeby which is a small village just east of Richmond. These two routes are going anti-clockwise towards Richmond and just after the start, they break off in different directions. The shortest of the two routes at 8 miles heads out past Gillingwood Hall before turning southwest towards Coalsgarth Gate and then cuts through the edge of the old Richmond Racecourse at Low Moor before dropping south into Richmond. The longer route is a 12-mile route that goes out as far as Ravensworth and then swings round south to come into Richmond via Whitcliffe Farm

The third route is an 11-mile route that starts at the Scotch Corner service station, just off the main A1 road. This route skirts the edge of the Scotch Corner roundabout and heads into Sedbury Park before going towards the villages of Gilling West and Whashton. As the route heads south-east it picks up the same paths as the 8-mile route into Richmond.

Richmond in the Yorkshire Dales may be the only one but there will be plenty of us out for these walks. If you want to join us you can get in touch from our Contact Page and you can download the GPS routes here.
