Runswick Bay to Saltburn – 27 May 2023
This is the first of three trips to the coast this year. We are walking in the North York Moors on this trip, in August we are along the coast in the Scottish Borders and in December we are on the coast in Northumberland.
The three routes which we have planned all follow the Cleveland Way which actually starts in Helmsley and does an inland section over the moors for 57 miles to Saltburn. From Saltburn, the Cleveland Way goes right along the coast to finish in Filey another 53 miles away. So our routes are running along part of the coastal section of the Cleveland Way and while it might be in the opposite direction to the official start we still get to see the spectacular scenery of the high cliffs along this section of the coast.
Two of the routes get off on the A174 road. The shortest route of 9 miles heads to the coast at Staithes and then set off along the Cleveland Way. The 10.5-mile route heads towards Port Mulgrave on the coast and the 11.5-mile route starts at Runswick Bay which is just off the A174 road.
If you would like to do the first of our three trips to the coast, especially this one on the North York Moors you can get in touch with us from our Contact Page. You can also download the walk descriptions below and GPS routes here.
For some idea, it sounded good to walk this section of the coast in November 2019. Unfortunately, the day turned out to be one of rain and wind which you might make out from the image for this post.
