Bamburgh to Embleton – 22 January 2022

One down, two to go. It’s the start of our coastal walks for 2022, we do not usually do that many in any one year and this year is no exception. After this one, we have a second one in July when we go from Coldingham to Dunbar in the Scottish Borders and the third one is the last walk of the year in December when we walk from Longhoughton to Embleton.

In 2020 we started off the year with a walk along the coast from Christon Bank to Bamburgh and when we got going again in 2021 we did a walk from Embleton to Bamburgh so it will make a change walking down the coast again.

The shortest route is 8.5-miles and starts just outside Seahouses and goes around the harbour and across Seahouses Golf Club. It is getting more difficult to drop down from the Golf Course onto the beach at Snook Point so the usual route is to come out onto the road and cross the bridge just south of the Golf Course before rejoining the beach. This route then follows the coast down to Beadnell and then past Low Newton-by-the-Sea before turning inland at Dunstanburgh Golf Club into Embleton.

The longest route is 11.5-miles and starts in Bamburgh and walks down the coast to Seahouses where it picks up the same route as the 8.5-mile into Embleton.

The third route is the 10.5-mile route and this is going to go inland just south of Bamburgh and then heads south through North Sunderland which is to the west of Seahouses and keeping inland skirts Beadnell to the west before reaching the coast at Beadnell Harbour. This route then picks up the coastal route and follows this to Dunstanburgh Golf Club and into Embleton.
