Great Broughton to Swainby – 27 May 2023

This is our first visit to Swainby since 2002 we were also there in 1998 as well but as that was in the last century it maybe doesn’t count. Both occasions were so long ago the original walk sheets that describe the routes have disappeared so the three routes on the programme are all new ones. In March 2016 we had Swainby to Great Broughton on the walk programme but as only one route started close to Swainby it was not much help. This time, even though the start is from Great Broughton we have just one route beginning from there.

The 11.5-mile route starts close to Swainby on the outskirts of Ingleby Arncliffe and goes eastwards through Scugdale and climbs over Barkers Crags to go north past the old Gliding Club before coming back towards Swanby on the Cleveland Way.

The 10.5-mile route starts on the outskirts of Stokesley and goes south and climbs up to the Cleveland Way from Busby Moor. As the route leaves the Cleveland Way it heads north towards Whorlton and Whorlton Castle before coming into Swainby from the east.

The 9.5-mile route is the only route starting from Great Broughton and this route heads south towards the Cleveland Way where it climbs up Broughton Bank. As the route leaves the Cleveland Way it makes its way along a minor road into Swainby.

If you would like to walk to Swainby, perhaps for the first time in 21 years you can get in touch with us from our Contact Page. You can also download the walk descriptions below and the GPS routes here.
