Ribblehead to Hawes – 8 July 2023

A change to the programme for this Saturday’s walks. The main reason is that it has become difficult to find a place for the coach to park in the original finishing place of Horton in Ribblesdale. The last time we were walking in this area was in 2013 when we finished in Horton in Ribblesdale but we also walked from Hawes to Ribblehead in 2006. So in keeping with our original planned routes in the Yorkshire Dales, we are walking in the opposite direction.

The three walks are 9.5 miles, 11.5 miles and 12 miles. All the walks start on the B6255 close to Ribblehead Viaduct but turn away north towards Hawes. In this area, there are a number of popular walking routes, the Dales Way, the Pennine Way and the Ribble Way. The 9.5-mile route starts on the Ribble Way but then heads north on the Pennine Way. After 6 miles the route leaves the Pennine Way and uses an old track called the Cam Road and then a footpath into Hawes.

The 11-mile route uses the Dales and Ribble Way but as the Dales Way turns north the route heads east on the Ribble Way and then joins the Pennine Way which it stays on all the way to Hawes.

The 12-mile route starts by going south on the Ribble Way as far as Nether Lodge before turning north on a footpath to reach the Pennine Way which it stays on all the way to Hawes.

So Dales Way, Ribble Way and Pennine Way you have a chance to walk along part of all of them if you fancy a finish at Hawes. You can get in touch with us from our Contact Page and you can download the walk descriptions below and the GPS routes here.
